FEBT May Rockhill Restoration Work Session – Announcement and Signup

The FEBT next Rockhill Restoration Work Session is coming up May 1-2. Saturday work hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm. Sunday work hours will be from 9 am to 4 pm.

MEALS

To reserve a seat for breakfast, for a donation, served at 8am at the Iron Rail B&B contact David at trolley@innernet.net before Thursday. Lunch will also be served at the Iron Rail B&B for a donation, menu given at morning meeting and count taken. Last month $132.00 was donated to FEBT by the Iron Rail. Other local restaurants are available for lunch and dinner.

Due to the Covid 19 virus, FEBT and the East Broad Top Foundation would like all volunteers to provide their own PPE (face masks, gloves, sanitizer). FEBT will have some supplies at the Paint shop for those that need them.

Projects we will be working on:

COMBINE 14

Interior wood work and window painting and installation will continue. Tools to bring: tape measure, pencil, hearing protection, eye protection. Up to 6 volunteers can work on the Combine.

CARPENTER SHOP

Siding repairs will continue, broken windows made safe, prep the inside for concrete floors. Repair the roof as needed and hang gutters if parts arrive in time. Bring with you hand tools, gloves, hard hat if you have one. There are extra hard hats in the Paint Shop. Up to 12 people can work on the Carpenter shop.

TRACK GANG

Construct dual gauge track near Freight Office to display a standard gauge boxcar. Bring gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, water bottle.

    • Hard hats
    • Safety glasses
    • Full face shields when using the cutoff saw to cut bolts or rail, etc.
  • Recommended
    • Steel-toed boots
  • Optional (not required)
    • Safety vests
    • Hearing protection

Hard hats are available in the Paint Shop. Ten people can work on track.

WINDOWS

It will be warm enough to continue work on windows. Red paint overspray needs painted white, other sashes need a fresh coat of white paint. New sashes need glass installed. Always plenty of work to be done. Bring old clothes with you, and gloves. Paint and supplies provided. Eight people can work on windows.

Details

You must be 18 and a member of the FEBT ( or join at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
