FEBT July Rockhill Restoration Work Session – Announcement and Signup

The FEBT July Rockhill Restoration Work Session is coming up July 11-12. Please note that starting with this session, we are now utilizing online signup for slots for the work session. Details at the bottom of this announcement.

Saturday work hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm. Sunday work hours will be from 9 am to 4 pm.

MEALS

To reserve a seat for breakfast, for a donation, served at 8am at the Iron Rail B&B contact David at trolley@innernet.net before Thursday. Lunch will be served at noon at the Rockhill Trolley Museum pavilion both days for a donation. All proceeds go to the FEBT restoration fund. Last month $380.00 was donated. Local restaurants are available for lunch and dinner.

Due to the Covid 19 virus, FEBT and the East Broad Top Foundation would like all volunteers to provide their own PPE (face masks, gloves, sanitizer). FEBT will have some supplies at the Paint shop for those that need them.

Projects we will be working on:

COMBINE 14

The east side clerestory is ready for finish paint. Ventilators will need cleaned and painted before installation. Window installation and interior trim out will continue. Tools to bring: tape measure, pencil, hearing protection, eye protection. Up to 6 volunteers can work on the Combine.

MACHINE/BOILER SHOPS

Finishing installing the floor and rehanging cabinets, repairing the roof overhang, repairing siding, installing gutters and downspouts are some of the work needed in the shops. Tools to bring: pry bars, hammers, cordless drill/driver, tin snips, circular saw, tape measure, pencil, gloves, eye protection, ear protection, hard hat if you have one, extras are available in the Paint shop. Up to 10 volunteers can work on the shops.

PAINTING

The Electrician/Brake shop is ready for finish paint. Priming will continue on the Pattern house, Coal bin, and Foundry. The paint crew is in need of volunteers who will climb ladders. Tools to bring include painting clothes, gloves, hard hat if you have one, safety glasses, step ladders. Up to 12 volunteers can work on painting buildings.

WINDOWS

Repairing/replacing the roundhouse/bus garage windows is a goal for this year. Tools to bring: hammer, pry bar, circular saw, putty knives, glazing tools, gloves, step ladders, paint scrapers, hard hat if you have one, we have extras in the Paint shop. Up to 10 volunteers can work on windows.

TRACK WORK

Help restore track back to good condition. Tools will be provided by the RR. Bring good gloves, steel toed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat, water bottle, Up to 10 volunteers can work on track.

BRUSH CUTTING

Several places around the yard/mainline need the brush cut down. Tools to bring: chain saw, pole saw, pruning shears, gloves, chaps, hard hat, ear protection, eye protection, water bottle. Up to 8 volunteers can cut brush.

You must be 18 and a member of the FEBT ( or join at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
