FEBT June Rockhill Restoration Session

BE SURE TO READ THE ENTIRE NOTICE. THERE ARE CHANGES FROM OUR NORMAL OPERATIONS.

The next Rockhill work session of the 2020 season will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 13, 14.

Saturday work hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm. Sunday work hours will be from 9 am to 4 pm.

MEALS

Breakfast AND lunch will be served at the Iron Rail Bed & Breakfast for a donation both days. Breakfast served at 8:00 AM, lunch served at 12 noon both days. All proceeds will be donated to FEBT to support ongoing restoration work. To reserve your seat, contact David at trolley@innernet.net before Thursday. Local restaurants are available for lunch and dinner TAKE OUT ONLY.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE

FEBT wants to limit the attendance at the work session to 45 people. To attend, you will need to be one of the first 45 to respond back to me with your name and what project you would like to work on, starting Wednesday, June 10 at 8 AM. Responses received before 8 AM (Centurylink time) will be ignored. Incomplete responses will be ignored. If you are one of the first 45 respondents, you will receive a confirmation from me. If you are number 46 or higher, you will get a reply stating your number.

Limits are being set due to Covid 19 restrictions and a shortage of crew leaders at this time. The situation will be re-evaluated for the next work session.

Projects we will be working on:

COMBINE 14

Finishing the clerestory and rubber roof on the East side will be priority. Lower window installation will continue. Tools to bring: tape measure, pencils, hearing protection, eye protection. Up to 6 volunteers can work on the Combine. Charlie Wootton will lead this project.

MACHINE / BOILER SHOPS

Putting the shops back together will start with putting down as much of the old floor as possible in both shops and rehanging several cabinets. Roof repairs are needed in the alley between the shops and new gutters and down spouts need to be installed. Tools to bring: Pry bars, hammers, cordless drill/driver, tin snips, circular saw, tape measure, pencil, gloves, eye protection, ear protection, hard hats if you have them, we have extras in the Paint Shop if you need one. Up to 12 volunteers can work on the shops. Randy Lehrian and Steve Jacobs will lead this project.

PAINTING

The Electrician/Brake shop, Pattern house, Coal bin, and Foundry have been scraped and are ready for paint. Tools to bring include painting clothes, hard hats if you have them, safety glasses, step ladders. Up to 12 volunteers can work on painting buildings.

WINDOWS

Repairing/replacing the roundhouse windows is a goal for this year. Some sashes need repairs, some need glazed and painted, some need a complete new sash. Tools to bring: hammer, pry bars, circular saw, putty knives, glazing tools, gloves, step ladders, paint scrapers, hard hat if you have one we have extras in the Paint Shop. Up to 6 volunteers can work on windows.

TRACK WORK

Help restore track back to good condition. Tools will be provided by the RR. Bring good gloves, steel toed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat, water bottle. Up to 6 volunteers can work on track. Nicholas Brigthbill will lead this project.

BRUSH CUTTING

Several places around the yard/main line need the brush cut down. Tools to bring: chain saws, pole saws, pruning shears, gloves, chaps, hard hat, ear protection, eye protection, water bottle. Up to 6 volunteers can work cutting brush.

SPECIAL NOTES

Due to the Covid 19 virus, FEBT and the East Broad Top Foundation would like all volunteers to provide their own PPE ( face masks, gloves, sanitizer of their choice ). FEBT will have some supplies at the Paint shop for those that need them.

You must be 18 and a member of the FEBT ( or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
