FEBT Restoration – Saltillo Station Reconstruction

Saltillo Station Groundb

Saltillo, PA is a small borough located southwest of Rockhill, the headquarters of the East Broad Top Railroad. Over the years Saltillo had a tannery, mill and an iron mine and was the point the NARCo branch departed from the main. However, Saltillo was also important as the last town before the long steep climb up to Broad Top Mountain.

The EBT Saltillo Station served until the end of EBT common carrier operations, even after passenger service ended. Moved at least once and added onto multiple times, the demands on this building grew over the years the railroad operated.

After the end of common carrier operations on the EBT, the station building served other roles including as a furniture warehouse. As the decades passed the building began deteriorating and by the 21st century it was to badly damaged to restore. The building was thoroughly documented and unique portions removed prior to it being demolished.

With the purchase of the EBT by the nonprofit EBT Foundation, and the launch of the “March to Saltillo” track restoration program, having a facility at the new end of serviceable track was needed for when operational track reached the town.

Thanks to the support of FEBT’s Annual Campaigns, The rebuilding of the station has become a reality. Groundbreaking for the station took place March 6, 2025.
