Have you visited the Friends of the East Broad Top Robertsdale Museum or the Broad Top Area Coal Miners Museum, located in the former East Broad Top Railroad’s coal company town of Robertsdale? Have you visited, but not on an “Archives Day?”
On Saturday, June 14, join EBT’s archivist, Julie Fether Rockwell, for the first Archives Day of the tourist season, featuring activities at both museums. Julie and Zoe Merkel, the Archives’ Juniata College summer intern, will share rare maps, drawings, and other artifacts from the Rockhill Iron & Coal Company’s operations, many of which have never been seen in person before.

In addition to the unique displays, Julie has arranged for Clifford H. Dodge, a retired Senior Geologist of the Pennsylvania Geological Survey, to present a lecture, “Some New Revelations on the Coal Geology of the Broad top Region,” from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Broad Top Area Coal Miners Museum. Admission to both museums for the day is free, with donations accepted.
So, take a Railbike or walking tour of the historic Broad Top Coal Fields, pick up a memento in the gift shop, and learn more about the geology of Broad Top Mountain; there’s something for everyone and every experience!
